Zoo Boise, a division of Boise Parks and Recreation, is honored to be recognized as one of the top 20 zoos in the country by USA Today. According to the publication, a panel of experts selected their picks for the best zoos in the United States — facilities that excel in the fields of animal care and enrichment, while also facilitating meaningful interactions between animals and human visitors – and Zoo Boise made the cut.

“This is an incredible honor for Zoo Boise and all of our supporters,” said Director Gene Peacock. “This kind of recognition, especially for our animal care and conservation efforts, means a lot.”

From the top 20 list, USA Today will name the top 10 zoos through a public vote. You can cast a vote for Zoo Boise once daily through Monday, March 4 (no registration or logging in is required). Click here to vote for Zoo Boise and help us reach the top 10!

“We’ve always known Zoo Boise is a state-of-the-art facility and I’m proud of the team for continuing to lead the pack,” added Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway.

This isn’t the first recognition Zoo Boise has received. In 2023, Zoo Boise was reaccredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, the gold standard for zoos. Zoo Boise has also been recognized for its conservation contributions across the globe. Since 2007, visits to Zoo Boise have generated more than $4 million for animal conservation efforts in the wild.

Zoo Boise is owned by the City of Boise and managed by the Boise Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the Friends of Zoo Boise, a private non-profit organization. Zoo Boise is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with last admission at 4 p.m.
