Although very common in the pet trade, little is known about crested geckos in New Caledonia. First described by Europeans in 1866, they were thought to be extinct for over 100 years until 1994, when they were redocumented by scientists.

Habitat

As nocturnal creatures, these geckos spend their nights foraging in the forest canopy and their days resting in thick vegetation near the ground.

Range

Crested geckos are endemic to New Caledonia, an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. This means they are only found on a couple islands in the world!
