The three-banded armadillo stays safe with their bony armor and the ability to completely roll into a ball. They tip-toe on ballet-slipper-like feet at surprising speeds all throughout the night.

Range

Southern three-banded armadillos are found in the dry forests of central South America, including western Brazil, eastern Bolivia, Paraguay, and northern Argentina.

Life Expectancy

Their life expectancy averages 15-20 years under human care. It is unknown the average number for armadillos in South America.

Diet

Southern three-banded armadillos use their sharp claws and excellent sense of smell to forage for their preferred diet: insects like ants, termites, and beetles.

Social Structure

These armadillos are mostly solitary. They only temporarily come together during breeding opportunities or on rare occasions of extreme cold.
