Habitat

Spotted dikkops can often be found in dry open habitats - savannas and grasslands - but are also found in other landscapes, such as on the fringes of woodlands and even in urban areas.

Range

They are found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, as well as in a few small areas on the Arabian Peninsula.

Life Expectancy

Their life expectancy under human care is around 15 years and is presumed to be less in their native range.

Diet

Their diet mainly consists of insects, which they catch by running up to the bug, stopping, and jabbing it with their bill. Dikkops also eat small mammals and lizards.

Social Structure

In Africa, spotted dikkops are often seen alone or in pairs. During the breeding season, pairs are monogamous and territorial, with both parents helping to raise chicks.
